Principal Product Engineer, EU – Ashby

We are a growth‑stage startup building product‑market‑fit talent‑acquisition software. Our customers include Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. We’re hiring to expand our engineering team and build the next wave of product features beyond talent acquisition.
Responsibilities
- Own large portions of one of our core products; take projects end‑to‑end from research and specification to implementation and delivery.
- Design product features and architecture, including turning customer requirements into data‑model design, UI wireframes, and backend implementation.
- Build automated interview scheduling, declarative filter architecture, and offer‑signing flows that reduce manual work for recruiters.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (product, design, SRE) to define problem scope, validate solutions, and ship high‑quality code.
- Lead engineering culture: mentor teammates, champion minimal process, and maintain a collaborative, ownership‑driven environment.
- Advise product and engineering leaders on technology strategy, technical debt, and scalable architecture decisions.
Qualifications
- Mid‑senior level experience, strong background in building highly‑scalable, data‑centric SaaS products.
- Proficiency in TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis. Familiarity with typed languages is a plus.
- Hands‑on experience ranking systems, real‑time scheduling, and automated workflow engines.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to turn ambiguous problem statements into concrete, actionable design.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentorship abilities.
Technical Stack
TypeScript (frontend & backend), React, GraphQL API, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis.
Interview Process
- Introduction call with Hiring Manager (15‑30 min, live).
- Technical screen with pair programming in our codebase (1 h, live).
- Three non‑coding interviews focused on product thinking, technical design, and infrastructure (3 h 15 min, online; can be split across days).
- Optional 30‑minute recruiter screen for additional context.
Your First Three Months
Day 1: Single‑script developer environment; first product change by the end of the day.
Growth: progressively larger and more ambiguous feature work, from copy changes to core product enhancements.
Milestones: 30‑, 60‑, and 90‑day reviews with your manager.
