Responsibilities

The research focus of the professorship should be on gaining a deeper understanding of pathogen-host interactions and exploring the fundamentals for the development of new anti-infectives. The professorship is intended to strengthen the scientific focus of the Faculty of Medicine, particularly in the field of inflammation and infection, and to provide links to research activities at the Center for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO), the German Center for Infection Research, the German Center for Lung Research, the EU Vaccines Hub, and/or the Faculty of Pharmacy. Active participation in teaching in the medical, human biology, and pharmacy programs is expected.

Qualifications & Expectations

• Internationally recognized scientific achievements in microbial immunology.
• Future research program must include medically relevant model systems suitable for analyzing translational aspects of pathogen-host interactions.
• Experience in successfully acquiring third‑party funding.
• Participation in microbiological diagnostics is possible.
• Experience in teaching and, ideally, training in university teaching methods are advantageous.
• Employment requirements set out in Sections 67 and 68 of the HessHG – a completed university degree with a doctorate and academic achievements evidenced by a habilitation or equivalent achievements.
• Willingness to cooperate across universities and departments in campus focus areas and profile areas, and to participate in joint projects.
