The GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) is one of the world's largest research projects, under construction through international cooperation. Your responsibilities

  • Management, organization and continuous development of all quality assurance measures during installation.
  • On‑site support and monitoring of the installation work of all accelerator components from a quality assurance perspective.
  • Assumption of the role of “Installation Quality Control Lead”.
  • Definition and monitoring of the required qualifications of inspection teams, as well as training in relevant procedures, templates, and processes.
  • Review of technical documentation such as drawings, bills of materials, quality plans, and specifications as part of design reviews.
  • Planning, execution and evaluation of acceptance tests, including the definition of suitable measurement and testing methods.
  • Tracking of internal and external quality deviations and advising work‑package managers on how to handle non‑conformities.
  • Support in ensuring legally and norm‑compliant execution (e.g. CE conformity, Machinery Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive, DGUV 202‑002).
  • Representation of quality assurance in planning meetings and close interface communication with site management, sub‑project managers and technical departments.

Your profile

  • Successfully completed a degree in engineering or a comparable qualification with relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in quality management and quality assurance methods (e.g. audits, FMEA) as well as familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (e.g. ISO 9001, Machinery Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive, DGUV 202‑002) – alternatively, solid basic knowledge combined with the willingness to deepen this expertise.
  • Strong technical understanding of complex custom‑built systems, system interdependencies and technical interfaces.
  • Structured, analytical and solution‑oriented working style, paired with confident interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong hands‑on mentality and pronounced on‑site and construction‑site orientation with a high level of presence during component installation.
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly and persuasively convey quality assurance requirements.
  • Good command of German and English, both written and spoken.
  • High level of attention to detail as well as strong methodological and social skills.
