Quantum Communication Engineer (dmw)

Over the course of six decades, TESAT has developed in‑depth expertise in manufacturing payload equipment for communication satellites and has established itself as a clear European market leader. On its 60,000 m² premises in Backnang, Germany, about 1,100 employees develop, assemble, integrate and test systems and equipment for telecommunication via satellite. For more than 20 years TESAT has pioneered the development and production of space‑borne laser communication terminals. In order to maintain its technological edge, the company is heavily investing in quantum technologies and is involved in numerous national and international quantum cryptographic pilot projects while exploring use cases for space‑borne quantum sensing and metrology.

Job Description

You will join our quantum technology team and

• develop optical and quantum communication satellite payloads
• perform system engineering tasks for complex optical communications payloads
• participate in technology development programs for the essential building blocks of next‑generation optical and quantum payloads
• work on and test optical laser setups in our laser laboratory
• analyze and interpret data
• interact with and support customers regarding technical requirements and specifications

Job Requirements

• Master’s degree in communications engineering or other related STEM fields (e.g., physics, photonics)
• Hands‑on experience with lasers, optoelectronics and optics
• Analytical thinking
• Willingness to work in a team within multi‑partner project structures
• Fluent in English and German
