R&D Electrical Engineer (w/m/d) at Hitachi Energy

Join our global R&D team to develop high‑voltage switchgear and components such as circuit breaker drives. You will work on projects spanning mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, and fault diagnosis. We look for technically skilled, motivated team players with intercultural competence.

What you will achieve

• Innovative design and engineering of gas‑insulated high‑voltage switchgear
• Provide deep technical expertise and consultancy to teams and stakeholders
• Develop concepts through structured innovation generation
• Create implementation concepts considering functional, material, manufacturing, and economic aspects
• Conduct electrical investigations using simulation and lab tests
• Dielectric and thermal optimisations
• Plan, oversee, and execute tests in collaboration with internal and external laboratories

What you bring

• Excellent academic background (ideally PhD) in electrical engineering or related field
• 3‑5 years experience in development and high‑voltage technology, preferably in gas‑insulated switchgear
• Background in mechatronics is welcome
• Graduates with relevant technical specialization and substantial internships or project work
• Strong communication skills with global stakeholders and teams
• Experience with simulation software
• Experience with quality tools such as DFMA, FMEA, etc.
• High technical understanding and interest in business and process flows
• Fluency in English (spoken and written)
• Willingness for occasional business travel
