Job Description
The primary purpose of this position is to lead and support Fresh operational execution across all districts within an assigned region. This role provides operational direction, training support, and performance coaching—focused on Fresh sales growth, profit/margin performance, labor effectiveness, Known Loss reduction, production standards, and consistent execution of Fresh programs and brand standards. The incumbent serves as a key liaison between Store Support Center (SSC) Fresh partners and field operations to ensure initiatives are communicated clearly, executed consistently, and supported by disciplined feedback loops. They also are accountable for supporting the execution of Regional Operations priorities, ensuring Fresh execution aligns with the direction of the Regional Vice President (RVP) and regional operations leadership. The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
This position has multi-unit responsibility. The final position placement location will be determined based on the selected candidate's residence location. There are multiple positions (one position per Region) for this role.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Operational Direction & Execution
- Drive consistent execution of Fresh operational priorities across all districts within the assigned region, aligned to regional expectations and operational direction established by the RVP and regional operations leadership.
- Partner with District Managers and district-level Fresh Leads to reinforce standards, expectations, and accountability for Fresh execution in stores.
- Provide field coaching and support to improve Fresh execution including department readiness, quality standards, rotation and code dating, sanitation, and operational discipline across all perishable departments.
- Support execution of major Fresh initiatives across the region (seasonal transitions, program rollouts, promotional builds, process changes, and operational pilots).
Sales, Profit, and Labor Performance
- Evaluate Fresh performance with a focus on sales growth, profit/margin performance, and labor effectiveness, identifying opportunities and gaps by district and store.
- Partner with operations leadership to reinforce disciplined execution that improves financial results, including production accuracy, labor scheduling alignment, and shrink / Known Loss reduction.
- Support store leadership and field partners in improving labor planning and productivity through best-practice execution, operational discipline, and performance-based coaching.
- Use operational and financial reporting to guide coaching, follow-up, and corrective action plans, ensuring improvement efforts are measurable and sustainable.
Known Loss, Purchase-to-Sales, and Production Standards
- Lead Known Loss reduction efforts by reinforcing disciplined production, rotation, and freshness standards; identifying root causes of waste; and driving corrective actions through Fresh Leads and store teams.
- Support improvement of Purchase-to-Sales performance by reinforcing ordering, production, and replenishment behaviors that reduce excess inventory while protecting in-stock conditions and sales.
- Drive consistent production-level standards and execution across Fresh departments by reinforcing recipes/specifications, pack-out standards, case conditions, and service counter readiness.
- Ensure Fresh departments operate with clear production expectations, consistent routines, and disciplined follow-up to reduce variability in results across stores.
Product Knowledge & Institutional Knowledge
- Demonstrate strong product knowledge across Fresh categories (Produce, Meat/Seafood, Deli, Bakery, Floral), including key item distinctions, quality attributes, and proper handling requirements.
- Reinforce knowledge of seasonality, peak-selling periods, and regional item trends to support effective merchandising, ordering, and production decisions.
- Coach store teams on product and process expectations, ensuring consistent customer-facing standards and improved associate confidence in Fresh departments.
Communication, Alignment, and Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as the regional liaison between SSC Fresh partners and field operations to ensure clear communication, alignment, and consistent execution of Fresh programs, standards, and initiatives.
- Translate Fresh priorities into clear execution directives for district Fresh Leads, with emphasis on operational feasibility, store readiness, and consistent standards.
- Consolidate field feedback from district Leads and stores, identify recurring barriers or opportunities, and communicate trends and recommendations back to SSC and operations leadership.
- Reinforce consistent alignment between operations and Fresh partners to prevent overlap, confusion, or inconsistent execution expectations.
Audit, Compliance, and Brand Standards
- Partner with Regional Operations leadership and district Leads to strengthen Store Operations Review (SOR) performance related to Fresh execution, sanitation, food safety readiness, and operational standards, including compliance regarding all internal and external audit processes (e.g., food safety and operational audits).
- Reinforce compliance with Fresh programs and applicable food safety, sanitation, and quality standards through visibility, coaching, and follow-up with field partners.
- Support new store openings, remodels, and strategic initiatives involving Fresh readiness, merchandising setup, and operational execution support.
- Lead or participate in special projects related to Fresh performance, operational improvements, and strategic regional priorities as assigned.
- Demonstrate and reinforce customer-first behaviors and service expectations by modeling strong customer experience standards, coaching store teams on service behaviors, and ensuring operational execution supports an excellent customer experience.
- Conduct routine competition checks to evaluate competitor execution, pricing and promotional activity, merchandising standards, and customer service practices. Share insights with operations leadership and partners to inform priorities and strengthen execution.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but is responsible for training, mentoring, and influencing district Fresh Leads, store leadership, and store associates across the region. This role supports accountability through coaching, disciplined follow-up, and partnership with District Managers and the Regional Operations Specialist.
Qualification Requirements
Education And/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Business, Retail Management, Culinary, Food Science, or a related field preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in retail operations, fresh operations leadership, perishable merchandising, or store leadership roles required. Experience supporting multiple locations, field execution routines, and performance coaching preferred.
Skills And Abilities
- Strong knowledge of Center Store operations including merchandising standards, planogram execution, DSD/receiving standards, inventory processes, reclaim/IRC compliance, and backroom organization. Ability to influence outcomes without direct authority through strong partnerships, structured communication, and standards follow-up. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze financial and operational data to drive improvement. Proficiency with the Microsoft® Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Rate of Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00
