Responsibilities

• Conduct research on label‑free interferometric imaging of cells.
• Operate and extend an existing microscope setup for label‑free interferometric microscopy.
• Grow cell cultures in partnership with a medical research group.
• Develop quantum‑limited microscopy schemes using novel cameras and illumination techniques.
• Create data‑science algorithms to detect action potentials in video microscopy recordings.
• Publish results and present at national and international conferences.

Qualifications

• Completed university degree in physics (state exam, diploma, master’s or comparable).
• Several years of experience in designing and constructing interferometric optical microscopes.
• Several years of experience in numerical image processing and quantitative analysis of interferometric data.
• Basic experience in biological experiments and operation of research microscopes under S1 biosafety conditions.
• Excellent academic track record.
• Proficient in English (C1 or equivalent).
• Ability to cooperate in a diverse team and in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Willingness to investigate scientific questions deeply and seek fundamental understanding.

Benefits

Salary is negotiated at pay group 13 TV‑L. The position is funded for the duration of the project and is based in Rostock. The employment relationship is temporary in accordance with § 2 (1) Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz. If desired, part‑time work may be possible subject to the requirements of the position.
