About the Role
Located in Sydney, Australia. The School of Chemistry teaches more than 2000 undergraduate students each year across four undergraduate programmes. The Research Associate will be part of the Smart Materials and Surfaces research group in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to an ARC Discovery grant on nanoconfinement in electrochemistry.
Salary: $113 K – $121 K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
Term: Fixed-term, 12 months.
Full-time, 35 hours per week.
Reports to Scientia Professor Justin Gooding and has no direct reports.
Specific Responsibilities
- Conduct research in electrochemistry and electrocatalysis.
- Perform and supervise experiments in electrochemical evaluation of catalytic materials.
- Write and maintain laboratory notebooks detailing all experiments.
- Complete experiments on time and provide timely analysis of results.
- Analyse and write results suitable for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Contribute to scientific papers, reports for international journals and progress reporting to researchers and industry partners.
- Assist with preparation of research proposals and actively seek collaboration with industry partners.
- Coordinate research activities and contribute to meeting project milestones.
- Present results at national and international conferences.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Comply with health and safety policies and ensure actions do not impact health and safety.
About the Successful Applicant
To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have
- A PhD specialising in electrochemistry.
- Demonstrated ability to develop electrochemical procedures for materials characterisation.
- Extensive experience in performing electrochemical measurements.
- Demonstrated experience in materials synthesis.
- Previous experience in a research environment and training PhD and Honours students.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- Understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant training.
