GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is an internationally active research institute, funded by federal and state governments and member of the Leibniz Association. Starting as soon as possible our Department Survey Design & Methodology (SDM) , Team Scale Development and Documentation located in Mannheim , is looking for a Research Associate (Doctoral student) focus on psychometrics (Salary group 13 TV-L, working time 75 %, limited to 4 years). The department Survey Design & Methodology (SDM) is both nationally and internationally recognized for its expertise in survey methodology, gained over many years by conducting own research as well as consulting on and implementing renowned survey projects. With the Open Access Repository for Measurement Instruments (ZIS), the department maintains one of the largest collections of validated instruments in the social and behavioral sciences. GESIS supports researchers who plan to archive their instruments in ZIS by offering feedback on validation and by publishing separate guidance materials (e.g., tutorials and best-practice documents) on developing and validating measures.

Your profile:

  • Scientific university degree (e.g., Master’s degree) in Psychology, Sociology, or related discipline
  • Very good understanding of quantitative methods, including classical and modern test theories
  • Solid programming skills in R (knowledge of Python or Julia is an advantage)
  • Very good German and English language skills
