To strengthen our team at the Department of Neurology / Research Laboratory for Experimental Neurology, we are seeking to fill, at the earliest possible date, a part-time position (26 hours/week) as a Research Associate (f/m/d), limited until 30 June 2029 and remunerated according to salary scale TV-L (E 13).

Your tasks:

The Research Group for Experimental Neurology investigates fundamental mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease. Within the Collaborative Research Centre 1270 “ELAINE – Electrically Active ImplaNts,” our work focuses primarily on the effects and mechanisms of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in animal models of Parkinson’s disease. Our goal is to further characterize this clinically established procedure and thereby contribute to improving DBS therapy for patients with Parkinson’s disease.

During the first and second funding periods of the CRC ELAINE (2017–2025), a fully implantable neurostimulation system for small-animal models was successfully developed. The aim of the position is to develop novel stimulation algorithms in an animal model that adapt to current motor and possibly also non-motor needs. There are already close collaborations with various research groups within the CRC at the University of Rostock. With the support and supervision of the members of the Experimental Neurology group, these studies – including the dissertation – can be completed during the project period.

The results of the research activities are to be presented in oral presentations and documented in reports and scientific publications.

Your profile:

• Excellent university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in veterinary medicine, human biology, biology, biochemistry, or related natural sciences
• Enthusiasm for experimental research
• Interest in clinically oriented basic research
• Scientific creativity and a strong interest in interdisciplinary work
• Experience with animal experimental techniques is an advantage
• Independent working style and ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics
• Basic knowledge of statistics is desirable
• Excellent command of English (spoken and written) is essential
