The position is located in the Theoretical Physics group at Bielefeld University. The successful candidate will conduct research in the Emmy Noether junior group of Dr. Adrien Florio as part of the Collaborative Research Center CRC‑TRR 211 “Strong‑Interaction Matter under Extreme Conditions”. The focus of the project will be on applying quantum‑information inspired methods to the study of phase transitions. The inspiring environment and the broad scientific network of the CRC (Bielefeld and partner universities in Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt) offer solid training and regular workshops on topics such as lattice QCD, quantum field theory, software development and high‑performance computing.

Responsibilities

• perform research on the above‑mentioned topics (80 %)
• publish results in scientific journals and present at workshops/conferences (10 %)
• teaching of tutorials/courses and supervision of Bachelor and Master students (8 %)
• participate in the organization of the academic life in the physics department (2 %)

Employment Details

• salary according to Remuneration level 13 TV‑L
• fixed‑term (3 years) (§ 2 (1) sentence 1 of the WissZeitVG; length may differ in individual cases)
• part‑time 65 %

Your Profile

• completed relevant university degree (master or equivalent) in Physics
• knowledge in many‑body physics, quantum field theory, lattice gauge theories and/or quantum information
• programming experience (e.g. Julia, Python or other language)
• good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
• good communication skills (written and spoken)
• collaborative and team work abilities
• independent, self‑directed and organized style of work

Preferred Experience

• familiarity with tensor network methods or quantum computations
