Researcher Wind Farm Logistics Modeling

At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. Be part of change

You will be part of the “Offshore Operations & Logistics” group at our site in Bremerhaven, Bremen or Hamburg. Here, we develop innovative methods for the optimisation of installation, operation, and dismantling concepts for offshore wind farms. At the heart of these activities is the development of software tools that can be used to map and analyse the entire life of an offshore wind farm in detailed time‑series simulations. The team consists of five employees and several students. We support each other regardless of projects and backgrounds, fostering a culture of open exchange and cooperation that extends beyond team boundaries and sites.

What you contribute

You will further develop various models and methods, analyse and optimise installation, operation and dismantling concepts for offshore wind farms, and find ways to reduce risks and costs over the entire life of the wind farm. To develop these methods and further advance the in‑house software, you will use Python. You will assist the team in acquiring industry projects in which the models you develop will be applied, and you will be involved in research projects – for example, by generating ideas, submitting applications and reporting results. You will work with and interface with other groups at our institute.

Qualifications

• Completed diploma or master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering Management or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on offshore processes and offshore logistics related to wind farm operation.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience in project work and/or wind energy in general, and in modelling of work processes, is a plus.
• Good command of German and English.
