Robotics Integration & Autopilot Interface Engineer (ROS 2 / PX4 / MAVLink)

Join our Autonomous Teaming as a Robotics Integration & Autopilot Interface Engineer. Your mission is to connect third‑party autopilots and sensors to our robotics stack, building robust ROS 2 ↔ MAVLink ↔ PX4/ArduPilot command/telemetry loops that perform reliably in the field. This is a middleware & interfaces role: build bridges, prove reliability, and ship to hardware beyond lab demos.

  • Develop ROS 2 ↔ MAVLink bridges (heartbeats, params, missions, telemetry) with latency/jitter within budget, controlled packet loss, metrics and alerts. Measure via traces, dashboards, and field endurance tests.
  • Integrate sensors (GNSS, IMU, camera, LiDAR, radar): acquisition, time sync, correct frames, and provide clean interfaces to autopilots and ROS nodes. Measure with bag replays and end‑to‑end validation.
  • Deploy on embedded platforms (Jetson/ARM): reproducible CI/CD images, versioned releases, rollbacks, watchdogs, health checks. Measure crash rate, MTTR, and stable field runs.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain ROS 2 nodes for sensor drivers, message transformations, and PX4/ArduPilot interfaces.
  • Implement MAVLink flows (HEARTBEAT, PARAM, MISSION, ATTITUDE/IMU, failsafes), manage routing, and add custom messages when required.
  • Own operational reliability: DDS QoS, retries, heartbeats, watchdogs, link‑loss recovery, and structured logging/tracing.
  • Drive Git‑centric delivery (PRs, reviews, tags), packaging with colcon/containers, deployment scripts, and bag replays for integration tests.
  • Conduct weekly to bi‑weekly field tests with live hardware, validating changes under operational conditions, debugging in the field, and iterating based on flight performance data.

Your profile

Must‑Haves

  • Proficiency in ROS 2 and C++17/20 for production code.
  • Experience with PX4 or ArduPilot (modes, params, mixers; SITL/HITL familiarity).
  • Strong knowledge of MAVLink protocols and routing.
  • Solid Git workflow and integration mindset.
  • Evidence of shipping to hardware/field on Jetson/ARM and resolving real‑condition issues.

Nice‑to‑Haves

  • Time sync (PTP/NTP), DDS QoS tuning, CPU pinning/cgroups/RT‑preempt, basic security hardening and health monitoring.
  • Encrypted telemetry and authenticated command links with cryptographic libraries.
  • Secure boot, update mechanisms, and embedded Linux hardening for defense‑grade security.
  • Multi‑agent coordination and inter‑drone communication experience.
  • Basic CI/CD literacy for pushing container images and triggering builds.
