As part of the national research data infrastructure initiative German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA) a research position as
Scientific Project Manager

is available at the University of Tübingen (scientific staff, E13 TV-L, 100%).

GHGA is part of the National Research Data Infrastructure Germany (NFDI) and acts as a national node within the federated European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA). Focussing on the secure storage, analysis and sharing of human genome data, GHGA is building a federated data infrastructure and develops software tools for secure data and metadata storage, interactive data portals with data visualisation, and streamlined data deposition and acquisition solutions.

GHGA is a consortium with more than 20 participating research institutions. To support the GHGA project management office, we are looking for a Scientific Project Manager based at the GHGA office in Tübingen. The successful candidate will work closely with the project coordination team in Heidelberg, and will also contribute to GHGA outreach and training activities. In addition, the candidate will also support Prof. Oliver Kohlbacher, the co-speaker of GHGA, in Tübingen managing local projects and activities related to GHGA.

Your responsibilities:

  • Administrative support of GHGA governance bodies. This includes the planning, organisation and minute taking of meetings of the Board of Directors, Steering Committee and Scientific Advisory Board.
  • Administrative support of the lead coordinator regarding consortium financial aspects
  • Coordination of the local activities in Tübingen around GHGA including support for institutional obligations with respect to legal and data protection and support for writing funding proposals
  • Internal and external reporting within GHGA
  • Planning and organisation of events and meetings, e.g. team meetings, annual meeting, public symposia
  • Support of the GHGA training team. This includes the organisation of and contribution to internal and external training activities, e.g. webinars, in-person courses, conference workshops etc…
  • Support of the GHGA outreach team in internal and external activities (e.g. website maintenance and generation of content, internal communication, as well as attendance and outreach at conferences and public events, etc…)
  • Active participation and contribution to other GHGA and NFDI activities depending on qualification and interest of the candidate.

Listed responsibilities are part of and shared between a larger project management team.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or equivalent qualification in bioinformatics, computational biology, biological science, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or other fields, possibly with a PhD degree
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in project management / project coordination preferably in an academic setting is beneficial
  • Previous proven hands‑on expertise in one or more of the following fields is beneficial: bioinformatics, research data management, handling of sensitive human data, legal and GDPR‑related processes, event management, budget management
  • Excellent skills in common office applications such as Word and Excel are required, expertise in project management or other relevant software tools is beneficial
  • Previous experience in working in multi‑institutional and/or international projects is required
  • Written and spoken proficiency in German and English is required, working language is English

The candidate should have excellent communications skills and be able to clearly articulate the technical needs, set clear goals and work within an interdisciplinary setting, communicating with other partners.
