Around two weeks ago, 21 motivated colleagues from our business line again rolled up their sleeves, grabbed paint rollers, and got to work, this time at the Franz Sales Haus, a institution located in Essen.The Franz Sales House in Essen supports people with disabilities in the areas of work, housing, leisure, education, sports, and health. The non-profit organization operates, among other things, a barrier-free hotel in Essen, another hotel in Bochum, a vocational college for social professions, a bakery, and much more. Over 2,300 individuals live, work, and thrive within the facility. Please let me emphasize, that our group was very impressed by the institution; it has the character of its own small town.Here’s how the numbers come together: 350 meters of masking tape carefully applied to protect surfaces, edges, and corners. 60 liters of high-quality paint , generously sponsored by Brillux, used to brighten up the walls. And finally, 350 square meters of space transformed into a fresh, vibrant environment that now shines in a whole new light!With a lot of dedication, teamwork, the result was a beautifully refreshed space, and a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together for a good cause.Special thanks go to Brillux for their support of high-quality paint, which made this transformation possible.This event wasn’t just about paint; it was about making a difference and contributing to the community. The positive energy among all was contagious, and we left the Franz Sales Haus not only with freshly painted clean walls but also with colorful memories.A huge thank you to the Evonik Coating Additives team for their enthusiasm and hard work! Together, we’ve shown that even small actions can have a big impact.Cheers Today we want to acknowledge someone who has quietly played a major role in our success for the past three decades — Darrin Murcott, one of our H(2)O(2) tanker drivers who has worked alongside our team as an external provider for 30 years. Thirty years of early starts, tight schedules, changing regulations, and shifting industry standards — and through all of it, Darrin has remained a constant. What stands out most is his unwavering commitment to health and safety. In an industry where there’s no room for shortcuts, Darrin consistently leads by example. Safe loading, safe transport, safe delivery — every time. That discipline protects not only our business, but our people, our customers, and the communities we operate in. Equally important is his reliability. When Darrin is booked, we know the job will be done professionally, on time, and without fuss. That level of dependability builds trust — and trust is the backbone of long‐term partnerships. Over the years, even as transport providers have changed, Darrin has continued to support Evonik. That speaks volumes. His consistency, professionalism, and the respect he’s earned across teams have made him a valued and trusted presence, regardless of the logo on the truck. Since 2007, when I started working in your department with my diploma thesis, you have always supported me, helped me, guided me, and given me the confidence to grow and develop further. During this long time, I had the opportunity to take on several positions under your leadership. I started as a Development Engineer in the Performance Test Lab, followed by the position of Deputy Department Manager. After that, I had the chance to lead my first technical team as "Team Leader – Engineering – Performance Test Laboratory." Further changes led me to become the Performance Test Laboratory Manager, and I additionally took over the Tribology Team. Now, another milestone has arrived where things have changed. I have now taken over the overall leadership of the Performance Test Laboratory and am stepping into your shoes, filling big footprints. Throughout all these years, we have worked together on so many great projects, field trials, and tasks in this fantastic field. Up to this point, it has been an incredible journey! :) And I am grateful to have walked this path with you for so long. I am very happy that our relationship will continue, even though we will now move forward in different departments. One thing will remain: the goal of working together to precisely measure the performance of VISCOPLEX and VISCOBASE products to show the industry how they can use high-performance lubricants to improve their applications. Your perspective, role-model mindset and encouragement to confidently shape a career in a scientific environment made this experience truly impactful. Couple weeks ago I was in Malaysia. Customer visits, technical sessions, walking through production plants. And plenty of meals in between.Sales, marketing, engineering, production, R&D, procurement — everyone looks at the same business from a different angle. And every conversation gives you a small piece of the truth. On its own it’s incomplete. Put together, it starts to make sense.It also reminded me how easy it is to look at additives as commodities today. When there are so many choices, it’s tempting to focus only on the product. But the conversations tell a different story.Business is all about listening long enough to understand the full picture, then figuring out how we can actually help. A solution, not an offer.I enjoy this part of the job. It feels a bit like detective work — asking, listening, connecting dots. The more time you invest, the clearer things become. When it finally clicks, the travel and long days feel worth it.And none of this is done alone. Every visit is backed by a team that prepares, challenges, and supports each other.
