Job Description

As a Senior Backend Engineer for our Nexus DataBus, you will design and implement the event‑driven data backbone that powers Shopware’s next‑generation integration and automation platform – Nexus. The DataBus is the real‑time streaming and transformation layer connecting Shopware instances, third‑party systems (ERP, PIM, OMS, CRM), and the Nexus workflow engine. Your work ensures performance, reliability, and extensibility across thousands of tenants and integrations.

This role is ideal for engineers passionate about distributed event systems, high‑throughput APIs, and cloud‑native architectures, with an interest in evolving toward end‑to‑end ownership across the full integration stack. The position can be filled on‑site, hybrid, or full‑remote within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered.

Responsibilities

Design and maintain scalable, event‑driven backend services in Golang – covering core DataBus services, ingestion, transformation, and routing.
Implement and optimise event streaming pipelines using Kafka or Redpanda to keep events flowing reliably.
Develop robust data transformation and validation logic for commerce entities such as products, stock, and orders.
Design and maintain multi‑tenant, cloud‑native APIs (REST and GraphQL) that external systems can depend on.
Together with peers, advance observability and monitoring using OpenTelemetry, metrics, and tracing, ensuring data reliability and fault tolerance.
Collaborate with the platform team to optimise AWS‑based deployments (ECS/EKS, Terraform/IaC, S3, Secrets Manager).
Engineer backpressure, retry, and failover mechanisms across distributed workloads to guarantee resilience.
Contribute to multi‑tenant scalability and data isolation at the architectural level.
Optionally explore frontend integration with the Nexus workflow builder to visualise data flows end to end.

Qualifications

5+ years of backend experience in Golang or another statically typed language (e.g., Rust, Java).
Experience with distributed systems and high‑availability architectures.
Knowledge of API design (REST/GraphQL), data modelling, and database performance (PostgreSQL, Redis).
Proven understanding of event streaming systems (Kafka, Redpanda, NATS or similar).
Familiarity with cloud environments (preferably AWS) and containerised deployments using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of microservice architectures, Pub/Sub messaging, and stream processing (e.g., Flink or similar).
Clear, honest, and direct communication, willingness to explore and innovate, and strong problem‑solving skills.
Interest in low‑code/workflow automation tools and confidence to take ownership and drive topics to completion.
Experience with Redpanda Connect, Flink, Kubernetes, Terraform, the Shopware ecosystem, ecommerce data models, or observability pipelines is a plus.
Fluent English skills are essential.
