Senior Backend Engineer - Trust & Safety

We are excited to be partnering with our client, AVIV , on their search for a Senior Backend Engineer for their Trust & Safety organization.

Real estate business is a place where all real estate actors gather (home seekers, owners, intermediaries, etc).

Trust and Safety’s primary success factor is to provide the highest standards in terms of safety, truthfulness, relevance, efficiency, and quality of the interactions between each of these actors.

Many factors have an impact on the quality and trustworthiness of the marketplace.

The Trust and Safety teams’ role is about designing and developing best-in-class content detection and quality, rating, scoring, and matching mechanisms that ensure the engagement of our users is constantly pushed up, and the quality of our content in this marketplace is constantly improving.

Together, the teams make up around twenty people for now, including:

• Data Scientists & Analysts
• Product Managers

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Anti-Fraud team of Trust and Safety , and working closely with all the members of your team, you work on developing detection & prevention tools.

You ensure the delivery of high-quality tech, collaborate with other teams, and propose how to improve the security of our platforms, manage incidents and bugs in a structured manner. Participate in a fraud pattern investigation and help your Product Manager to improve business fraud metrics.

As a senior team member, you create, improve, and enhance the technical stack, and help your fellow engineers to improve their skills.

• Legacy Fraud System Deprecation

WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN INDIVIDUAL WHO CAN:

• Architect Scalable Systems: Drive the end-to-end design and implementation of high-availability backend components, focusing on re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
• Modernize the Fraud Stack : Lead the strategic “Legacy Fraud System Depreciation” that minimizes technical debt while maintaining service continuity.
• Engineering Excellence: Act as a Software Craftsman by upholding rigorous standards for code quality, system reliability, and long-term maintainability within the team.
• DevOps Mastery: Own the full deployment lifecycle, utilizing Terraform, CircleCI, and Docker to optimize delivery and automate internal manual processes.
• Advanced Detection Tools: Develop sophisticated detection and prevention tools to identify fraudulent content and activities.
• AI & ML Integration: Bridge the gap between engineering and data science by implementing ML models.
• Fraud Pattern Investigation: Collaborate with Product Manager, Fraud Analyst, and Data Scientists to investigate emerging fraud patterns and directly influence business fraud metrics.
• Incident & Bug Management : Establish structured frameworks for managing incidents and bugs to improve the overall security and resilience of the platforms.
• Agile Velocity: Take responsibility for both individual and team velocity, ensuring the Anti-Fraud squad delivers high-quality tech in a timely manner.

• AWS (CloudFormation, EC2, EMR, Lambda, ECS, Glue, Athena)
• Docker
• Python (main language), Java / Scala / TypeScript (secondary languages)

Qualifications

AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS:

• Several years of professional experience in backend development and some exposure to data engineering.
• Previous experience in a similar domain.
• Strong familiarity and day-to-day adaptation with GEN AI engineering tools for efficiency and automation.
• Deep understanding and hands-on experience with (AWS, Event-Driven Design, NoSQL databases, Serverless architecture).
• Significant experience with DevOps practices and tools (Terraform, CircleCI, Docker, Datadog).
• Experience in implementing ML models.
• Proven track record of owning and delivering complex technical projects.
• Proactive and pragmatic approach to identifying and solving problems.
• Holding a mindset of building simple first and adding blocks on top.
