Ratepay is seeking an experienced Data Infrastructure Engineer with a strong background in cloud-based database systems, including PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, ElastiCache, and automation with Terraform and Python. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our data infrastructure as platform usage grows, while standardizing backups, supporting schema changes, optimizing performance, maintaining Terraform modules, maintain and migrating Airflow, as well as expanding expertise in Microsoft SQL Server.

Operate, maintain, and enhance PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, and ElastiCache in AWS.
Support automation of database provisioning and configuration using Terraform and Python.
Create, manage and maintain the terrraform modules for data infrastructure related component.
Manage and maintain Apache Airflow.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve database performance.
Own backup and recovery strategies and manage production upgrades.
Collaborate with product teams on schema design, queries, and data migrations.
Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
Document operational procedures and train internal stakeholders.
Learn and support Microsoft SQL Server to widen internal capability.

Qualifikation

Must-have skills:

PostgreSQL (Deep technical ownership and performance tuning of critical database workloads)

DocumentDB, ElastiCache (Operate, maintain, and enhance in AWS)

AWS (Operate cloud-native databases with security, HA, and observability)

Terraform (Automate infrastructure deployment and ensure reproducibility)

Python (Scripting for automation, monitoring, and dev tooling)

Experience working with Apache Airflow

Nice-to-have skills:

Microsoft SQL Server (Grow support capabilities for Windows-based workloads)

CI/CD for DB changes (Improve deployment velocity and safety)

Snowflake experience

Monitoring (e.g. CloudWatch,Datadog for proactive performance tuning and incident alerting)

On-call experience (Operate in a 24/7 support model with reliability focus)

Due to our hybrid work model, we are looking for candidates based in or near Berlin. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to support visa or relocation processes.
