THE ROLE & THE TEAM

The Data Platform organization is providing Zalando with a reliable and secure environment for storing and processing data. We drive data engineering productivity and data security through interoperable services for data transformation, storage, serving, exchange, and orchestration, as well as data access management, metadata management, and data discovery. Within the Data Platform organization, the Data Repository team is responsible for managing the petabyte scale Data Lake and Mesh of Zalando, providing pipelines and tooling to ensure security and compliance.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Work within Zalando’s Central Data Lake team providing mission-critical data services for the whole Zalando group
• Design, build and maintain data pipelines that materialize event streams to Zalando’s Central Data Lake
• Design, build and maintain services that ensure the security, compliance and reliability of Zalando’s Data Platforms and Systems
• Support our strategy and come up with innovative ideas to build world-class data transformation systems one step ahead of the industry
• Consult and help our diverse teams across the Zalando group to develop, implement and maintain sustainable, high-performance, and scalable data-processing and data integration systems

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have more than 5 years of experience in designing and developing data processing and data platform services
• You have experience in operating data processing and data platform services in production
• You have experience with Apache Spark or other distributed data processing frameworks (e.g. Flink, Beam)
• You possess a track record in using and promoting software development best practices such as source control, continuous integration and continuous deployment, test-driven development and elastic cloud architectures (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure)
• You are proficient in at least one of the languages: Python, Scala, Java and you are comfortable working with SQL
• You have a strong understanding of distributed data platform architecture and technologies that enable a diverse set of data users to work efficiently with data
• You possess the ability to work cross-functionally, with multiple stakeholders, and/or train and consult other engineers and analysts on complex technical topics
