Role Summary

As the Senior Factory Software Integration Engineer, you will work closely with Volkswagen Group brands, vehicle software release teams, and manufacturing engineering to integrate vehicle software into our factory environments and support new product launches. You will own significant integration features and systems in the manufacturing domain, ensuring high‑quality, on‑time software delivery into production while mentoring more junior engineers and driving continuous improvement in our factory software integration and release processes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the integration of vehicle and factory software (e.g., flashing, commissioning, and test systems) for assigned production lines or manufacturing sites, ensuring production‑quality outcomes and stable plant operations.
  • Collaborate with software release leads, VWG brand stakeholders, development, test, and manufacturing engineering teams to coordinate software content and delivery into manufacturing facilities.
  • Break down ambiguous integration and commissioning requirements into clear, actionable work items, plans, and test strategies for factory environments.
  • Support and improve validation of software and configuration changes in pre‑production and production environments, partnering with test automation teams to enhance regression and end‑to‑end testing.
  • Work with manufacturing commissioning and planning teams in a technical capacity to ensure efficient, reliable ramp‑up of new products and software changes in the factories.
  • Monitor integration issues in manufacturing plants, drive structured root‑cause analysis, and coordinate cross‑functional resolution across development, test, and factory stakeholders.
  • Capture and prioritize feedback from VWG brands and manufacturing sites to continuously improve the factory software integration and release process, tooling, and documentation.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and contractors working on factory software integration activities.
  • Participate in architectural discussions for factory software and integration tooling, highlighting cross‑system impacts, long‑term maintenance, and scalability considerations.
  • Drive initiatives that improve the reliability, performance, and observability of factory software integration workflows, including metrics, dashboards, and alerting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science/Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience working on complex, cross‑functional, distributed software and vehicle software systems.
  • Strong experience in software release engineering, management, and deployment processes.
  • Experience with networked embedded systems (CAN, Ethernet, LIN, DOIP, ISOTP).

  • Experience with networking tools (Putty, Vector tools, SSH/SCP, Wireshark, netstat).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills, with proven ability to work with technical program managers and internal brand stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the manufacturing facilities domestically and abroad around 40% of the working time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency with Git and modern version control systems.
  • Experience with build tooling (e.g., Groovy, CMake, Yocto, Buildroot, etc.).
  • Experience with overlay networks and security tooling (Nebula, Wireguard, zero‑trust).
  • Experience developing for embedded systems in C/C++/Rust/Golang/Python/Qt.
  • Experience working in configuration management on a complex electromechanical product (Agricultural, Automotive, Aerospace, Defense, Manufacturing).
  • Experience with systems engineering and common systems analysis practices.
  • Experience with data reporting tools (Hex, SQL, Databricks, Snowflake, R).
  • Experience with messaging strategies (MQTT, NATS, UDP/TCP, API design).
