We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced legal professional for an exciting global opportunity within our Global Legal Animal Health team. As Senior Legal Counsel Animal Health you will provide comprehensive legal advice to the Animal Health (AH) Business Unit, focusing on Global Strategic Marketing (GSM) and Global Regulatory & Pharmacovigilance teams. This strategic role offers the opportunity to guide innovative marketing initiatives across our broad portfolio of companion animal and livestock products with global impact. You will provide expert advice on regulatory and pharmacovigilance matters, foster collaboration across cross‑functional teams and make a lasting impact in a dynamic, fast‑paced global pharmaceutical environment. This position is based in Ingelheim.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic business partner: collaborate with the AH Global Strategic Marketing (GSM) team, cross‑functional leaders, and international legal colleagues to provide strategic legal advice on innovative, globally impactful marketing initiatives.
- Provide strategic legal counsel to Global Regulatory & Pharmacovigilance on frameworks governing animal medicinal products, biologics, vaccines, medical devices/combination products, and digital health solutions; support marketing authorizations, including variations, line extensions, labeling, and offer guidance on pharmacovigilance obligations.
- Advise on advertising and promotional activities: ensure compliance with claims substantiation, fair balance, pre‑approval non‑promotion rules, and scientific exchange standards.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage complex agreements; oversee the negotiation, drafting, and execution of strategic alliances, collaborations with innovative companies, academic institutions, research organizations, and technology licensing agreements.
- Deliver proactive legal solutions: apply innovative‑thinking and creative problem‑solving skills to help the business navigate emerging challenges such as digitalization and evolving legal frameworks, while leveraging opportunities and mitigating risks.
- Collaborate globally: work closely with cross‑functional leaders and our global network of lawyers, compliance specialists, and patent attorneys to ensure alignment on key legal issues, set strategic directions, and foster cross‑functional collaboration.
- Monitor legal developments: stay ahead of relevant legal and regulatory trends, interpret changes in laws, and develop strategies that anticipate business impact and create competitive advantage.
- Lead high‑stakes legal matters: represent the company and oversee its legal defense strategies.
Requirements
- Bar‑qualified legal professional in a European jurisdiction (or equivalent), with honors in the state examination and several years of legal practice experience – ideally post‑qualification experience in regulatory/legal roles within pharma, biotech, or animal health, or in a top‑tier law firm advising such clients.
- Extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical market and competitive environment, including regulatory requirements and trends, with a focus on commercial topics.
- Strong expertise in pharmaceutical and regulatory law across the product lifecycle, including pharmacovigilance, quality compliance, international contract law, commercial law, and a solid understanding of competition law.
- Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex international agreements, including licensing, collaborations, and development services, and providing counsel on commercial matters.
- Business‑oriented, proactive, and outcome‑driven mindset, with a strong ability to build professional relations at all levels of the business.
- Curious and highly committed team player with strong analytical, strategic, and creative thinking, effective influencing skills, and excellent communication in English.
