Stellenbeschreibung:

Senior Legal Counsel (Data Protection and Privacy Compliance)

JetBrains is a well-known international software development company. Ever since we started, back in 2000, we have strived to make the strongest, most effective developer tools on earth. Our products are used by more than 11 million users worldwide, and 88 Fortune Global 100 companies are our customers. As JetBrains continues to expand its business activities, we are seeking a senior‑level legal counsel with a strong background in data protection, privacy compliance, and digital regulatory matters.

You will join a team of experienced lawyers supporting the legal needs of a dynamic, growing, and truly international IT company. Beyond the requisite skills and qualifications, we’re looking for a thoughtful and independent professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Areas of focus:

  • Advising on global data protection laws, including the GDPR, CCPA, PIPL, and similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Supporting privacy‑by‑design and privacy‑by‑default practices across product development and business operations.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and maintaining data processing agreements (DPAs) with customers, partners, and vendors.
  • Conducting data transfer impact assessments and advising on cross‑border data transfers.
  • Collaborating with IT and security teams on incident response and data breach notifications.
  • Monitoring regulatory developments and contributing to the company’s privacy governance framework.
  • Experience in software development, SaaS environments, OSS software, software licensing, or cybersecurity will be considered a plus.

Requirements:

We’re looking for a candidate who has:

  • Approximately 8+ years of post‑qualification legal experience, ideally in a multinational tech company or an international law firm.
  • Proven experience advising on privacy compliance, with a practical understanding of both regulatory obligations and business realities.>
  • Excellent working knowledge of the GDPR and other global privacy laws.
  • Experience interacting with regulators, DPOs, and leading privacy audits or DPIAs.

Additional requirements

You must also:

  • Communicate legal advice clearly and effectively to legal and non‑legal audiences (in English).
  • Work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across teams and jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrate professional recognition by a relevant legal regulator or bar association.
  • Exhibit high standards of integrity, discretion, and trustworthiness.
  • Be comfortable working in a multicultural and international remote‑first environment.

What we offer:

In addition to a competitive compensation package, you’ll join a diverse and supportive legal team in a high‑impact role. You’ll have access to off‑site learning, external CPD opportunities, and a collaborative atmosphere where your privacy expertise will shape real products and compliance strategies. Remote work and flexible hours are genuinely supported.

When can you start?

As soon as you’re ready, we’ll be delighted to welcome you on board!
