About the Opportunity
A global leader in the chemicals and advanced materials industry is seeking a Senior Project Engineer (Electrical / Automation) to support large-scale capital investment projects at a flagship manufacturing site in Leverkusen.
This role is ideal for an experienced project engineer who thrives in complex industrial environments , values safety above all else , and wants to lead impactful projects from concept through commissioning—while collaborating with international teams and stakeholders.

What You’ll Do
In this role, you will take ownership of multiple CapEx projects , ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget , while complying with all regulatory and internal standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading multi-project execution from definition and planning through completion
- Preparing investment applications , cost estimates, schedules, and project reports
- Ensuring strict compliance with EHS, safety, and internal engineering standards
- Translating internal safety requirements into actionable project execution plans
- Conducting risk management, gate reviews, value engineering , and documentation
- Coordinating with Procurement on contracts and sourcing strategy
- Collaborating closely with technical standards, operations, and implementation teams
- Providing coverage for the Project Engineering Manager during holidays or absences
- Supporting additional project-related initiatives as required
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Automation Engineering
- Several years of experience delivering CapEx projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Proven project management capability, including indirect leadership of project teams
- Strong analytical skills with a structured, independent working style
- Excellent communication skills and professional assertiveness
- High level of teamwork and intercultural competence
- Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Business-fluent German (spoken and written)
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience with process engineering and/or electrical investment projects
- Basic knowledge of explosion protection and functional safety
- Initial people or project leadership experience
