Senior Robotics Simulation Engineer - Sensor / ROS / Gazebo / C++ / Python

Our client is a fast-growing start-up in Munich working at the intersection of AI and Robotics research. They are looking for a Senior Robotics Simulation Engineer to help build the next generation of intelligent robotic systems.

What will you do?

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable and high-fidelity simulation environments for robotic systems (manipulators, mobile robots, humanoid robots).
• Develop and integrate realistic sensor models (LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, force/torque sensors) into simulation platforms.
• Create accurate kinematic and dynamic models of robots and their interactions with the environment.
• Collaborate with controls, planning, perception, and software engineers to ensure simulations reflect real-world behavior and performance.
• Develop tools and pipelines for simulation data analysis, visualization, and automated testing.
• Identify and resolve simulation fidelity issues and discrepancies between simulation and reality.
• Promote best practices in simulation development including modularity, reusability, and performance optimization.
• Contribute to the architectural design and evolution of our simulation infrastructure.
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in robotics simulation tools, techniques, and research.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Your background

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in robotics simulation development.
• Proficiency with one or more major simulation platforms (Gazebo, CoppeliaSim, Isaac Sim, Webots, MuJoCo, ROS 2 + Gazebo).
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
• Experience with robotic middleware, particularly ROS/ROS 2.
• Solid understanding of robotics fundamentals including kinematics, dynamics, controls, and sensor fusion.
• Experience with 3D modeling software and realistic environment creation.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Bonus Points

• Experience with real-time physics engines.
• Knowledge of parallel computing or GPU acceleration for simulations.
• Experience applying machine learning in simulation (reinforcement learning, synthetic data generation).
• Familiarity with cloud-based simulation platforms.
• Contributions to open-source robotics projects.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines for simulation testing.
