Senior Software Engineer – SAP HCM Payroll

We are currently hiring for a client seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer – SAP HCM Payroll. In this role, you will play a key role in developing, optimizing, and ensuring reliable payroll processes within an existing SAP HCM on-premise environment, working closely with HR payroll specialists to deliver stable and legally compliant payroll solutions.

This position is ideal for someone with strong SAP HCM Payroll expertise and ABAP development experience who enjoys solving complex payroll challenges and contributing to future HR technology initiatives.

What You Can Expect:

  • Play a central role in developing, optimizing, and ensuring reliable payroll processes
  • Work closely with HR payroll specialists to deliver stable, legally compliant, and high-performance payroll solutions within SAP HCM (on premise)
  • Provide technical support and further development of SAP HCM Payroll, including schemas, rules, and billing modules
  • Analyze, test, and implement legal changes, tariff changes, and company-specific adjustments
  • Support monthly and annual payroll runs and handle the clarification of payroll-related errors
  • Ensure system compatibility after support package installations and year-end activities, including installing patches
  • Create technical concepts and documentation
  • Provide 3rd level support for complex payroll-related cases
  • Conduct independent code reviews and performance optimizations, particularly in the payroll context
  • Support and advise the payroll department in introducing new technologies, process optimizations, and automation
  • Contribute to the roadmap towards H4S4 / S/4HANA HCM

What We’re Looking For:

  • Several years of professional experience in SAP HCM Payroll and ABAP development
  • Deep understanding of time management and payroll processes, including their implementation using schemas and rules
  • Strong familiarity with HR infotypes, particularly those relevant to payroll
  • Experience implementing legal requirements and payroll follow-up processes (e.g., social security notifications)
  • Strong analytical and detail-oriented thinking with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability and interest in working closely with payroll departments
  • Knowledge of SuccessFactors is a plus, but not mandatory
  • German language proficiency at C1 level (required)
