Senior Software Project Manager / Portfolio Manager (gn)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Project Manager/ Portfolio Manager for a technology company in Hamburg. You will work hybrid (40–60% remote) at a modern Hamburg office. Regular meetings with local peers and teams are planned.

You will be responsible for the operational steering of complex software projects and ensure that parallel initiatives create a controllable, reliable overview.

Your role: reduce complexity, clarify priorities, and guarantee delivery capability in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Steer multiple concurrent IT software development projects and initiatives; ensure goals, dependencies and progress remain transparent and controllable.
• Define clear project structures, milestones and decision logic; translate strategic requirements into actionable work plans.
• Coordinate cross‑disciplinary roles, synchronise developers, product owners and design; prevent friction.
• Facilitate agile practices; structure recurring meetings, maintain sprint logic and keep focus on deliverability, quality and reliability.
• Provide transparency and reporting; present status, progress and bottlenecks to stakeholders.
• Identify and manage risks and blockers; act proactively with pragmatic, solution‑oriented solutions.
• Continuously improve processes; challenge existing workflows, optimise tools and establish scalable standards.

Qualifications

• Years of experience overseeing software or technology projects.
• Proficiency managing multiple parallel initiatives in an agile context.
• Solid understanding of modern development processes and iterative ways of working.
• Excellent communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Proficient use of project management tools.
• Strong English skills; German is a plus.
• Hands‑on mentality: delve into detail when needed.
• Pragmatism: deliver functional solutions rather than theoretical perfection.
• Anticipatory thinking: spot patterns before problems arise.
• High organisational strength: maintain overview even at high pace.
