Staff Backend Engineer Java, React (All genders)

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer Technical Lead to drive technical excellence across one of our core product areas. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex technical challenges leading architecture decisions and being a hands‑on contributor while guiding a team of engineers.

You’ll work closely with backend, frontend and DevOps engineers to build scalable reliable systems and act as a technical mentor and decision‑maker.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend systems and services.
• Own key architectural decisions and drive technical direction for the team.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with frontend product and DevOps teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Ensure high standards of code quality performance and maintainability.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers through code reviews, design discussions and pairing.
• Influence development best practices and help evolve engineering processes.
• Contribute directly to the codebase as a senior IC (Individual Contributor).
• Advocate for and help implement DevOps practices like CI / CD, observability and automation.

Qualifications

• 8 years of software engineering experience with a focus on backend systems.
• Proven experience in leading technical projects and making architecture‑level decisions.
• Strong proficiency in backend technologies (Java).
• Solid understanding of RESTful or GraphQL API design and best practices.
• Good working knowledge of frontend technologies (e.g. React, Angular).
• Hands‑on experience with DevOps tools and practices (e.g. Docker, CI / CD, AWS / GCP, infrastructure as code).
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices and system scalability.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex problems.
• Strong communication skills especially in articulating technical decisions and trade‑offs.
