Meet DeepL

DeepL is a global communications platform powered by Language AI. Since 2017, we’ve been on a mission to break down language barriers. Our human-sounding translations and intelligent writing suggestions are designed with enterprise security in mind. Today, they enable over 100,000 businesses to transform communications, reach new markets, and improve productivity. And, empower millions of individuals worldwide to make sense of the world and express their ideas.

Our goal is to become the global leader in Language AI, building products that drive better communication, foster connections, and make a real-life impact. To achieve this, we need talented individuals like you to join our exciting journey. If you're ready to work with a dynamic team and build your career in the fast-moving AI space, DeepL is your next destination.

What sets us apart

What sets us apart is our blend of modern technology, competitive benefits, and an open, welcoming work culture that enables our people to thrive. When we share what it's like to work at DeepL, the reactions are overwhelmingly positive. This may be because of our products that have helped countless people worldwide or our shared mission to improve communication for individuals and businesses, bringing cultures closer together. What we know for sure is this: being part of DeepL means joining a team dedicated to innovation and employee well-being.

Meet the team behind this journey

Voice is DeepL’s fastest-growing and most ambitious product portfolio. We are building real-time speech translation across meetings, conversations, and APIs—products that operate in highly dynamic, multi-user, real-time environments.

Voice is past initial validation and entering a phase of rapid scale. As we grow, design leadership becomes critical : to set a coherent vision, to ensure quality across surfaces, and to help DeepL lead with design in a new product category.

We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to own and elevate design across the entire Voice portfolio.

As Staff Product Designer for Voice , you will lead the design vision and strategy across all Voice products. You will operate as a design leader, system thinker, and hands-on practitioner , shaping both near-term roadmap decisions and the long-term experience vision for real-time voice translation.

You will act as a force multiplier for the design team , mentoring designers, raising the bar for craft and thinking, and influencing how design operates at DeepL as Voice becomes a core pillar of the company.

Your responsibilities

Lead Design Across the Voice Portfolio

  • Own the end-to-end design vision for all Voice products (Meetings, Conversations, API surfaces where applicable).
  • Ensure coherence, quality, and consistency across experiences while allowing products to evolve independently.
  • Translate product and business strategy into a clear, compelling experience vision.

Shape Product Strategy Through Design

  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Research to influence roadmap and prioritisation.
  • Use design as a strategic tool—not just execution—to frame problems, explore solutions, and guide decision-making.
  • Balance short-term delivery with long-term experience architecture.

Be Deeply Hands-On

  • Lead by example through hands-on design work on the most complex, high-impact problems.
  • Design for real-time, multi-speaker, multi-device scenarios with a strong sense of UX clarity and flow.
  • Ensure high craft across interaction design, information architecture, and experience quality.

Mentor and Multiply

  • Mentor and coach other designers across the Voice team.
  • Raise the bar for design critique, feedback, and design thinking.
  • Help the team grow in confidence, autonomy, and impact.

Influence Design Culture at DeepL

  • Contribute to evolving DeepL’s overall design standards, principles, and ways of working.
  • Advocate for design-led product development across disciplines.
  • Help establish Voice as a benchmark for design excellence within the company.

Qualities we look for

Design Leadership Experience

  • Extensive experience as a senior or staff-level product designer in B2B and/or complex consumer products.
  • Proven ownership of large, multi-surface product areas or portfolios.
  • Experience influencing product strategy through design, not just executing briefs.

Craft & Systems Thinking

  • Exceptional interaction design and UX judgment.
  • Strong ability to design systems, not just individual screens.
  • Experience designing for complex workflows, real-time or collaborative environments is a strong plus.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Comfortable working with senior product, engineering, and research leaders.
  • Ability to articulate design decisions clearly and persuasively.
  • Trusted partner who elevates cross-functional thinking.

Mindset

  • A founder-like mentality : ownership, curiosity, and bias toward action.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and shaping direction where none exists yet.
  • Passion for mentoring and growing others without formal authority.

What we offer

  • Diverse and internationally distributed team : joining our team means becoming part of a large, global community with people of more than 90 nationalities.
  • Open communication, regular feedback : as a language-focused company, we value clear, honest communication and direct, actionable feedback.
  • Hybrid work, flexible hours : hybrid schedule with in-office presence, flexible hours, and time-zone aware collaboration.
  • Virtual Shares : ownership mindset in every role with shares tied to DeepL’s growth.
  • Regular in-person team events : team and company-wide events to foster connection.
  • Monthly full-day hacking sessions : Hack Fridays for pursuing passionate projects and cross-team collaboration.
  • 30 days of annual leave : 30 days off (excluding public holidays) with mental health resources.
  • Competitive benefits : location-aware benefits across our global team.

If this role and our mission resonate with you, but you're hesitant because you don't check all the boxes, don't let that hold you back. At DeepL, it's all about the value you bring and the growth we can foster together. Go ahead, apply—let's discover your potential together. We can't wait to meet you!

We are an equal opportunity employer

You are welcome at DeepL for who you are—we appreciate authenticity here. Our product is for everyone, and so is our workplace. The more voices we have represented and amplified in our business, the more we will all succeed, contribute, and think forward! So bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It’s in our diversity that we will find the power to break down language barriers in the world.
