Our department at our headquarters in Berlin is hiring with immediate availability for a System Engineer, Project Manager (m/f/d)

Your mission

You will take responsibility for the technical implementation and project planning of automated, partly customer-specific surface analysis systems in the semiconductor segment or industry-related research. These systems are based on state-of-the-art UHV and vacuum technology and are used both in research and in industrial production environments, including manufacturing and integration into ISO-classified cleanrooms. This means that, in close and collaborative contact with our customers, you will:

• Analyze experimental and process-related requirements from research and semiconductor manufacturing and translate them into a functional, automated system design
• Coordinate with our mechanical engineering and software development teams regarding technical implementation (mechanics, control, automation, interfaces)
• Take on planning responsibility for the entire system process: from specification and design freeze to assembly and final acceptance
• Continuously drive the technical clarification and documentation of system projects
• Coordinate the procurement of components, assemblies, parts, and specialized materials
• Oversee system assembly and integration in our production, including cleanroom qualification (ISO-5 compatibility, contamination control)
• Conduct comprehensive in-house tests, automation and functional tests, and factory acceptance tests (FAT) prior to shipment; if necessary, together with customers
• Install, integrate, and commission the systems in the customer’s cleanroom (UHV systems, automation, interfaces, safety and process approvals)
• Train our users on how to operate the measurement systems

Your profile

• You have a degree in natural or engineering sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, materials science), ideally with a doctorate or comparable qualification
• You are enthusiastic about technically demanding challenges, particularly in surface analysis such as XPS/UPS, AES, or related photoelectron-based methods
• You have solid experience in UHV technology and ideally some initial exposure to automation solutions or integrated production systems
• Experience with cleanroom processes (ISO-5 or comparable ISO classes), contamination control, or semiconductor manufacturing is an advantage
• You enjoy working in a team and are self-organized, structured, and goal-oriented
• You are motivated by worldwide customer assignments, international project coordination, and close collaboration with research institutions and industrial clients
• You are resilient, communicative, and confident in technical environments
• You have excellent spoken and written English skills as well as intercultural competence
• Experience in project management (traditional or agile) is an asset
