Systems Engineer - User Segment of Military Satellite Communication Systems (d/f/m)
Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is hiring a Systems Engineer to work on the concept, design, development and technical requirements of system upgrades and modifications of the SATCOMBw Satellite Communication System and its related program upgrades for the German armed forces. The role will involve aligning different system modifications and upgrades, supervising acceptance, maintaining system performance, and resolving system anomalies.
Location

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Requirements engineering with DOORS in the area of the satellite communication systems, space and ground segments as well as lower levels.
- Conduct and follow up conceptual design activities in satellite communication lead systems engineering, including requirement, interface, user data and management data flow within the ground segment, TM/TC interfaces and interfaces to the customer.
- Establish requirements for satellite systems, space and ground segments and their items, e.g., modern digital payloads, ground stations, mission operation center, spacecraft control center, payload control center, networks including IT infrastructure and data centers.
- Analyze end‑to‑end communications performance including user segment over digital as well as transparent payloads.
- Lead the elaboration of system trade‑offs in satellite communication systems and overall system architecture definition.
- Lead elaboration of verification and validation concept at overall systems level and support relevant tests.
- Collaborate in elaborating the operations concept and preparing operational requirements for the space and ground segment with the systems engineers.
- Provide technical support to project managers on planning, contractual changes and risk & opportunity identification.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics or related Engineering disciplines.
- Excellent knowledge of military satellite communication systems (preferably heritage on SATCOMBw) with >10 years of experience.
- Profound knowledge of satellite communications engineering: technical interface, data flow (user and management data), TM/TC engineering (secure and unsecured) and user traffic.
- Strong knowledge of communication engineering including RF link budgets and antenna designs.
- Strong experience in software‑based systems, networks and IT infrastructure.
- Profound experience in modern digital payload, ground station, spacecraft control center and payload control center engineering.
- Experience in design, development, integration, verification, operations of satellite communication systems and associated processes and operational procedures.
- Experience leading a multi‑national engineering team.
- Business fluency in English and German (minimum C2 for both).
