Join the International Research Group PAN at the Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen as a Technical Research Assistant. The group studies how sex determination evolves across insects, combining high‑throughput genomics with functional approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate lab organization, maintenance, safety, inventory management and purchasing.
  • Optimize and perform routine DNA/RNA lab work, including extraction, library preparation and qPCR.
  • Support insect genetic engineering experiments such as CRISPR/RNAi microinjection in embryos and cell line maintenance.
  • Contribute to microscopy‑based workflows (FISH and ISH staining, imaging).
  • Provide training and day‑to‑day support to members of the research group.

Profile

  • University degree (or equivalent experience) in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Solid hands‑on experience with routine molecular biology techniques; willingness to learn cell biology and genetic engineering approaches.
  • Strong organisational skills and a reliable, independent working style.
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn and interest in optimising protocols.
  • Good communication skills; English is the working language of the lab, German is an advantage.
  • Leadership mindset, collaborative attitude and commitment to maintaining a supportive, well‑functioning lab environment.
