We are looking for a Test & Validation Engineer to work at our Client’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.

About the client and location

The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) based in Darmstadt, Germany. As the main control centre for ESA, ESOC controls the launch and early orbit phases for their missions. They are also accepted globally for their research into ground system engineering, satellite navigation, space debris studies and more.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Orbit determination and manoeuvre optimisation.
  • Attitude determination, including monitoring and verification of on‑board systems.
  • Generation of AOCS commands.
  • AOCS and optical sensors calibration.
  • Performing studies and technical analyses to support the above covering.
  • Routine mission operations.
  • Pre‑launch activities including software development and testing, procedure writing, technical analyses, and support to test and simulation campaigns.
  • Providing support during critical mission phases, including launch and commissioning and end‑of‑mission activities.
  • Supporting collision avoidance manoeuvres related to space debris, including on‑call operational support.
  • Maintenance and evolution of the flight dynamics system.

Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • A university degree in a relevant engineering discipline, astronomy, mathematics, or physics.
  • Strong skills in linear algebra, with a focus on problem solving in Euclidean three‑dimensional space.Advanced skills in single‑ and multi‑variable calculus.
  • Proficiency in numerical methods.
  • Very good knowledge of classical mechanics.
  • Ability to solve mechanics problems using analytical mechanics methods (e.g. Lagrangian formulation) is considered an asset.
  • Proven capability to develop, validate, and operate software applying the above solutions (e.g. Unix/Linux scripting, Fortran77/95, Python, C++).
  • Willingness to take operational responsibility within multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
