Your Tasks

  • Research and concept development: The basic mechanisms of PEM electrolysis degradation are partly identical to those of PEM fuel cell degradation, but they can differ due to the higher voltage in the kinetics and the effect. Therefore, the first step is to review the literature to examine the transferability of fuel cell aging to electrolysis aging. Based on this, an initial model concept will be developed.
  • Modeling: Once the concept has been developed, the actual modeling can begin. The initial assumption will be a platinum catalyst. The model will be validated and checked for plausibility based on data from the literature.
  • Transferability and generalization: In addition to platinum, other materials such as iridium are also used as catalyst materials. Simulation studies will be used to discuss the transferability of the model approach to other catalysts or configurations.

Necessary Skills

  • Current master's degree in a technical or scientific field, such as process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, physical chemistry, or industrial engineering
  • Interest in or, ideally, initial experience with electrochemical systems, preferably electrolysis
  • Programming skills in Matlab, Python
  • Initial practical experience in process engineering modeling is desirable
  • Very good German or English skills (at least C1 level)
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team, and an independent and responsible working style

Remuneration is based on our collective bargaining agreement. The current monthly salary for this position is EUR 979.
