Overview

The Cluster of Excellence “Transforming Human Rights” at Friedrich‑Alexander‑Universität Erlangen‑Nürnberg (FAU) explores the potential and limits of human rights in the context of major global transformations. The Postdoc program offers an exceptional environment for independent and collaborative research aligned with the cluster’s five megatrends: autocratization, planetary environmental crises, migration, fragmented economic globalization, and digitalization.

Your Workplace

Within a highly collaborative international team, postdocs will conduct independent and joint research projects. Each postdoc receives an individual Advisory Committee, a personal research budget, and opportunities for extended stays at partner institutions or human‑rights organisations.

Benefits

• Regular promotion to the next level and increase in salary pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement for German Länder (TV‑L) or remuneration under the Bavarian Public Servants Remuneration Act (BayBesG) plus an additional annual bonus
• 30 days annual leave at five working days per week, with additional free days on 24 December and 31 December

Your Tasks

• Conduct independent and collaborative research on the transformation of human rights, norms, institutions, and/or practices, preferably related to at least one of the five megatrends
• Develop research that bridges two or more megatrends
• Receive individual advisory support and tailor‑made skills development
• Utilise the research budget for field visits and international collaboration
• Publish academic work and contribute to the cluster’s early‑career support schemes

Your Profile

• Completed PhD/doctorate with thesis submitted by start date, focusing on human rights research (interdisciplinary experience is an asset)
• University degree (or equivalent) with excellent results in law, political science, philosophy, anthropology, human geography, management studies, history, computer sciences, or related fields
• Initial experience in publishing academic work
• Fluency in English; additional languages are an asset
