Venture Manager (w/m/d) Cybersecurity

TUM Venture Labs is a joint initiative of UnternehmerTUM and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). We are building a network of domain-specific incubators for Deep Tech and Life Sciences – with the goal of supporting technology-driven start-ups from idea to investor readiness.

Your Mission

As a Venture Manager, you will take on a central role in Munich in building and further developing our Cybersecurity and Defense Tech focus. Together with the team, you will support the development of our location in Berlin Marienpark and strategically connect both ecosystems.

Scouting & Venture Support (40%)

• Identification and selection of promising cybersecurity start-ups for the portfolio
• 1:1 sparring with founding teams on product strategy, market positioning, fundraising, and team building
• Structuring and coordinating individual support offerings within the TUM and UnternehmerTUM ecosystem
• Ensuring quality and further development of venture support processes in the security domain
• Further development of the TUM Venture Labs cybersecurity strategy from Munich
• Conceptualizing and managing the build-up of the Berlin Marienpark location in close coordination with local partners
• Development of a scalable growth concept including budget responsibility
• Positioning TUM Venture Labs as the leading platform for security start-ups in the German-speaking region

Partnerships & Ecosystem (20%)

• Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with government authorities, corporates, investors, and research institutions
• Actively connecting the Munich and Berlin ecosystems
• Connecting start-ups with researchers, industry partners, and capital providers

Community & Formats (20%)

• Conceptualizing and implementing high-quality expert and community formats in Munich and Berlin
• Coordinating cross-location activities in the Cybersecurity & Defense Tech field

Your Profile

Must-haves

• You have 3+ years of experience in a tech environment (ideally cybersecurity) – whether as a founder, in a venture role, or in strategy/business development at a security company
• You understand the dynamics of technology-driven start-ups and ideally have already worked with founding teams or founded a company yourself
• You hold a university degree with a strong technological focus or an equivalent qualification
• You navigate the German tech ecosystem confidently and ideally bring a strong network – particularly in Munich or Berlin
• You have proven that you can build things from scratch – whether a startup, community, product, or team
• You communicate confidently in German and English with founders, investors, and partners

Nice to have (but not required)

• Your own founding experience (failed ventures count too)
• Understanding of defense tech and public procurement
• Existing network with security-focused investors

What we offer

The position is initially limited to two (2) years and is full-time (100%) at least 32h (80%)
