VM Migration Specialist

Overview

Trinetix is seeking a highly motivated VM Migration Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to execute complex migrations, contributing to mission-critical infrastructure transitions.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed assessment and discovery of source VMware environments
• Create and execute migration plans
• Configure and deploy migration tools and appliances
• Develop and implement automation for large-scale migrations
• Validate migrated VMs for proper functionality
• Troubleshoot migration issues and implement solutions
• Document migration processes and create handover documentation

Qualifications / Requirements

• Good understanding of VMware vSphere environments
• Experience with KVM-based virtualization platforms, preferably HPE VM Essentials (VME)
• Knowledge of hypervisor-level operations and management
• Good experience with Windows Server administration
• Good experience with Linux Server administration
• Understanding of disk partitioning, file systems, and boot loaders
• Experience with any previous VM Migration projects
• Experience with virt-v2v or similar VM conversion tools
• Familiarity with RiverMeadow migration platform is preferred
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, and PowerShell scripting
• Experience with Ansible for automation
• Ability to develop custom automation scripts for migration workflows
• Understanding of network interfaces and configurations across platforms
• Knowledge of firewall configurations and security groups
• Experience with TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting
• Knowledge of various storage systems and configurations
• Experience with logical volume management (LVM)
• Understanding of disk formats (VMDK, qcow2) and conversion processes
• Effective English communication for customer interactions
• Strong documentation skills
