Positions

• W2 Professorship (W3 tenure track) in Advanced Recycling Processes for Circular Material Flows (m/f/x; Reference no.: W2763). Fixed‑term public sector appointment up to six years with possibility of promotion to permanent professorship upon successful evaluation.
• Four additional professorships in: Product Development and Circularity‑Driven Design (m/f/x; W2765), Sustainable Metallurgy and Structural Materials in a Circular Economy (m/f/x; W2764), Applied Mechanics (m/f/x; W2677) and Functional Materials (m/f/x; W2675). Applicants may submit separate applications for each suitable position.

Responsibilities

• Drive research and innovative teaching in recycling technologies and circular materials.
• Develop materials designed for circularity, including debonding on demand, stimulus‑responsive binders, and bio‑based CO‑fixation concepts.
• Collaborate with university research groups in the core research area Sustainability and project CircularSaar, as well as with local research institutions and industry partners.
• Design and deliver new teaching modules on recycling technologies and related subjects; contribute to interdisciplinary laboratory courses and programme development.
• Recruit and support early‑career researchers; participate in department and faculty committees.
• Lead the acquisition and implementation of collaborative projects with local, national, regional and international stakeholders.

Qualifications

• University degree in an engineering subject, chemistry, physics or a related field with experience in academic teaching.
• Evidence of independent research capacity: outstanding PhD/doctoral thesis and either Habilitation, a comparable volume of peer‑reviewed publications, interim junior professorship evaluation, or equivalent.
• High expertise in at least one of the specified research fields, demonstrated by high‑quality peer‑reviewed work and conference participation.
• Strong commitment to teaching, with previous regular teaching duties and positive evaluations, preferably in metallurgy, sustainability and circular material flows.
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken German and English; ability to promote further internationalisation and gender equality.
• Team player with collaborative mindset, demonstrated by joint projects and committee work.
