New Surgical Methods Aim To Minimize Invasiveness, Morbidity And Duration Of The Treatment While Maximizing The Effectiveness. During These Surgical Interventions, a Reliable Identification Of Target Structures And Surrounding Tissue Is Of Major Importance For Achieving This Objective, Particularly In The Field Of Oncology. The RTG Focuses On Intraoperative Tissue Identification. The Fusion Of Novel Multimodal Sensor Systems By Means Of Machine Learning Offers a High Potential For New Procedures To Discriminate Between Tissues That Goes Beyond The Information Content Of The Separate Sensor Data. The aim of the project A1 is to develop a miniaturized optical probe for discriminating different tissues based on their optical and elastic properties. In this project endoscopic imaging systems are combined with 3d-printed, fiber-based micro projectors for structured light generation at different wavelengths and fluorescence excitation. Image analysis of the tissue allows for the extraction of elastic and scattering properties.

Remuneration

The remuneration is based on the collective bargaining agreement for the public service TV-L according to remuneration group E13 (100%). The position is limited to 3 years.

1 April 2026

Dein Profil

• Excellent master degree in engineering, ideally medical engineering.
• Interest in medical technologies and motivation to work with tissue samples in an interdisciplinary group of engineers and surgeons.
• In-depth knowledge of optics, optical design (e.g. ZEMAX or CodeV), optical metrology and image processing.
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques, programming languages (Python, C/C++)
• Experience with CAD-modelling and 3d-printing is beneficial.
• Communication and team skills
