Primary Function & Purpose

The Senior Manager | Business Development will play a key role within WITNESS’ External Relations team , focusing on accelerating global revenue growth .

This position involves developing new business pipelines, crafting growth strategies , and strengthening relationships with partners including governments, foundations, and corporate entities.

The ideal candidate will be results-driven , strategic , and possess exceptional communication skills .

Key Responsibilities

Prospect Identification & Qualification

• Research and identify high-potential trusts, foundations, and corporate partners .
• Assess prospects for programmatic fit and capacity .
• Lead meetings with the Director of External Relations to review pipeline progress.
• Monitor sector news and sector trends for emerging opportunities.
• Commission external research to expand market understanding.

Cultivation & Engagement Strategies

• Collaborate with the Director to develop tailored engagement plans for top prospects.
• Coordinate with internal teams to implement cultivation strategies .
• Support proposal writing, presentation development, and case material preparation.

Growth & Partner Uplift Management

• Review upcoming renewals and reporting deadlines to identify opportunities.
• Oversee the drafting of donor reports demonstrating impact.
• Audit and enhance stewardship activities for high-value partners.

Culture of Learning & Agility

• Implement feedback mechanisms to improve internal processes.
• Support prospect research and qualification scoring.
• Stay updated on fundraising trends, new foundations, and shifts in technology .
• Contribute to updating fundraising KPIs and metrics .

Position Requirements

• 6–8 years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on institutional or corporate giving.
• At least 2 years of management or team leadership .
• Proven success in securing six-figure gifts/grants .
• Experience in international nonprofit or human rights sectors preferred.
• Strong skills in proposal and report writing .
• Exceptional relationship management capabilities.
• Attention to detail, professionalism, and discretion.
• Fluency in English ; additional languages advantageous.
• Commitment to social justice and WITNESS’s mission.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively .
• Flexibility for early morning or late evening calls .
• Willingness to travel 1-2 times annually , including internationally.

This role is remote , ideally based in European (CET/UTC+0 or UTC+1) or North American (EST/UTC-5 or UTC-4) time zones.

Candidates must have the legal right to work in their country of residence.

Compensation

WITNESS offers competitive, location-adjusted salaries . Examples include:

• US: $94,900 USD
• Canada: $108,900 CAD

Salaries are not negotiable but are based on local market rates and currency adjustments.
