Sustainability Lead

Location: Germany

Salary: €50,000 – €70,000 + package

We are working with a leading general contractor delivering landmark construction projects across Europe, with schemes regularly exceeding €100m in value. They are now seeking an experienced Sustainability Lead to join their team, driving environmental excellence and supporting the delivery of sustainable outcomes on high-profile projects in Germany.

The Role:

You will act as the sustainability subject matter expert for assigned projects, guiding teams through BREEAM, LEED, and low-carbon construction requirements, ensuring compliance, and championing the company’s sustainability strategy. Working closely with clients, consultants, and the wider project team, you will ensure environmental, social, and governance objectives are embedded into all stages of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the main sustainability contact for assigned construction projects
• Provide technical advice and guidance on environmental and sustainability matters
• Support and track progress on BREEAM, LEED, and other certification targets
• Undertake site visits and inspections to ensure compliance and best practice
• Prepare environmental and sustainability documentation (e.g. CEMPs, pollution incident response plans)
• Liaise with supply chain and project teams to gather evidence for certification
• Report on project sustainability performance and progress
• Champion continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the business

Requirements:

• Degree in environmental, sustainability, or related discipline
• Minimum 3 years’ experience delivering sustainability support within the construction industry
• Experience with building certification schemes (BREEAM, LEED, WELL)
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and sustainability assessment tools
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA, IES) preferred
• Full driving licence and willingness to travel as required
