The Dumele research group at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Cologne conducts research at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry and functional materials. The focus lies on the targeted synthesis and structuring of π-conjugated, polyaromatic molecules into covalent organic frameworks, supramolecular architectures, and switch-
able spin and photoactive materials. The aim is to develop tailor‑made molecular systems for applications in energy conversion, optoelectronics, and molecular functionality.

YOUR TASKS

Conduct independent research in the field of synthetic organic chemistry of functional materials, in particular the synthesis of polyaromatic molecules and their application in COFs, supramolecular systems, photoswitches, or optoelectronic materials, using modern synthesis and characterization methods
Participate in teaching and supervise students in practical laboratory training
Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration in an international research environment

YOUR PROFILE

Completed university degree in chemistry or a related discipline, with experience in synthetic organic chemistry and relevant analytical methods
High level of motivation
Willingness to learn new methods and enthusiasm for working in an international and interdisciplinary research team

The positions are available from 1 June 2026 and will be filled on a part‑time basis (25,89 hours per week). They are limited to a fixed term of three years. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and has the appropriate personal qualifications, the salary will be based on remuneration group 13 TV‑L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
