Role Description

We are seeking a PhD or Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate permafrost dynamics in the context of climate change. The position involves a combination of fieldwork and laboratory experiments focusing on the erosion processes of frozen soils.

Your tasks will include two main components:

• Conducting field experiments in the Canadian Arctic in collaboration with Prof. Ioan Nistor at the University of Ottawa.
• Performing laboratory-scale wave erosion experiments in the cold room facilities at TU Braunschweig to study the mechanics of permafrost degradation under hydrodynamic forcing.
• Teaching as part of the international research-based ExplorerMaster

Qualifications

• Completed Master’s degree (for PhD applicants) or PhD (for Postdoctoral applicants) in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong background in experimental methods, hydrodynamics, or soil mechanics.
• Experience with field data collection and analysis in cold or remote environments is an asset.
• Good communication skills in English; knowledge of German is beneficial for laboratory coordination and field logistics.
