As part of GEA’s Global IT organization and a key member of our Cloud Engineering & DevOps Competence Center, you will contribute to the design, operation and continuous evolution of GEA’s global cloud platform. In this central role, you help shape GEA’s cloud strategy, enable DevOps capabilities across the organization, and drive the adoption of secure, scalable and future‑proof cloud services.
About the Team
You will join the Cloud Engineering & DevOps team — GEA’s global Competence Center responsible for architecting, operating and continuously improving our Azure-based cloud platform.
The team plays a strategic role by:
- Driving the adoption of cloud-native technologies in Azure
- Implementing and evolving GEA’s Cloud Adoption Framework
- Defining governance models, modular templates and RBAC concepts
- Enabling DevOps practices through reusable platform components and secure landing zones
- A role with significant influence and technical impact
GEA’s IT landscape is currently undergoing a major transformation, evolving its structures, responsibilities and operating model.
As an Azure Cloud Platform Engineer, you will play a decisive role in this transformation by designing and implementing cloud‑native solutions using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and modern container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes).
You will collaborate closely with global IT teams, the GEA Digital unit, and DevOps/application teams across all GEA divisions — ensuring our platform services are scalable, secure and efficient.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop modular Terraform templates aligned with approved architecture and security standards
- Continuously enhance, refactor and optimize existing IaC modules based on new requirements and technology advancements
- Implement cloud services for landing zones, networking, governance, security controls and platform automation
- Apply DevOps principles for versioning, CI/CD, testing and lifecycle management of IaC artifacts
- Contribute to automated build, test and deployment pipelines to ensure consistent high-quality delivery
- Support application and DevOps teams in consuming cloud infrastructure services and provide expert technical guidance
- Work closely with platform architects, security experts and the platform’s Service Owner to propose improvements and new capabilities
- Evaluate new Azure services, tools and vendor technologies to drive platform evolution
- Contribute to the further development of GEA’s Cloud Adoption Framework
- Support the advancement of our global cloud operating model, ensuring clarity, alignment and adoption across the organization
Qualifications
- Deep hands‑on expertise in Infrastructure as Code, ideally with Terraform, including module architecture, reusable patterns and IaC best practices
- Strong background in Kubernetes and container orchestration, preferably with production experience in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, Python or Go
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, automation concepts and DevOps methodologies
- Cloud certifications (preferably Microsoft Azure) that demonstrate technical depth and an ongoing commitment to learning
- Bonus: Experience with cloud operations, governance frameworks, identity models, security controls and enterprise-scale cloud environments
- Strong communicator who collaborates effectively with architects, security experts, developers and cross-functional IT teams
- Analytical thinker with curiosity and a strong drive to explore, adopt and apply new technologies
- Team-oriented, proactive and structured approach to problem solving and execution
- Fluent in English; additional languages (e.g. German) are a plus
