Overview
About EUROGATE & EUROGATE Group Automation (EGA)
EUROGATE Group Automation (EGA) is driving the transformation of EUROGATE’s German terminals through an ambitious automation programme.
Our goal is simple: to make automation the engine of safety, reliability, and performance, turning technology and process excellence into measurable business results.
EGA brings together experts from engineering, operations, automation, and digital technologies to deliver complex automation projects that redefine how our terminals work. We are building a culture based on lean performance, continuous improvement, and practical learning, focused on progress, not control.
The Role
The Business & Operational Integration Manager is accountable for integrating new automated assets, systems, and ways of working into live container terminal operations.
The role exists to safeguard operational continuity, ensure effective change management, and enable new automated operations to reach target reliability and productivity.
This is a project leadership role, reporting to the Project Director and operating as a peer to Asset Design, Asset Delivery, Project Controls, and HSSE. It is an operations-led project integration role, focused on making automation work in reality for people, processes, and the running terminal.
Reporting to: Project Director
Locations expected in Bremen, Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
Language: English required; German strongly preferred.
In practice, this means you will:
- Own operational readiness, ensuring the terminal can safely adopt new automated systems.
- Translate portfolio-level automated operations intent into terminal-specific requirements, processes, and readiness plans.
- Define operational and business requirements and influence how technical assets are integrated into live operations.
- Own operational transition and ramp-up, remaining accountable through go-live until reliability is stabilised and productivity approaches target.
- Lead project-level change management, including training, SOP updates, and workforce transition.
- Coordinate closely with Operations and HR to deliver compliant and accepted change.
- Support handover to Operations as capability matures, while retaining project accountability where required.
- Manage change resources, including Change Manager(s), and provide operational direction to the project-assigned HR Business Partner and business change teams.
- Align with the Group Automation Portfolio team, applying standards, ways of working and providing lessons learned feedback to continuously improve.
Hard Skills & Experience
- Significant experience in container terminal operations, ideally including automated or semi-automated environments.
- Background as an Operations Manager, Execution Manager, Planning Manager, or similar operational leadership role.
- Experience working on large capital or automation projects, with exposure to project delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of how people, processes, IT systems, and equipment interact in terminal operations.
- Proven ability to define operational requirements and translate them into executable plans.
- Experience leading or supporting operational change, including training, SOP development, and workforce transition.
- Comfortable working alongside Engineering, IT, Asset Delivery, HR, and Procurement teams.
- Experience or real-life understanding of working with or alongside Worker’s Councils or regulated labour environments is advantageous.
Soft Skills & Behaviours
- Operationally grounded – understands the realities of running a complex container terminal
- Pragmatic and decisive – focuses on what will work, not what looks good on paper.
- Credible with operators and leaders alike – earns trust through experience and judgement.
- Collaborative integrator – aligns diverse disciplines without formal authority over all of them.
- Calm under pressure – supports operations during transition, incidents, and ramp-up.
- Change-oriented but practical – balances ambition with safety and stability.
Success (in this role) Looks Like
- Automation plans are in place early to the project and execution moves confidently from project delivery into business-as-usual, with new ways of working embedded and accepted.
- Live terminal operations remain safe, stable, and protected throughout automation delivery and transition.
- New automated systems are adopted smoothly, with operators and support teams ready and confident at go-live.
- Reliability is achieved and stabilised during early operations, with clear ownership through ramp-up.
