The Climate & Environmental Risk Specialist (f/m/x) within Chief Risk Office - Enterprise Treasury Risk Management (CRO ETRM) plays a key role in identifying, assessing, and managing climate and environmental risks related to Deutsche Bank’s real estate portfolios (Residential and Commercial Real Estate). This includes both transition risks (arising from regulatory changes, market shifts, and decarbonization efforts) and physical climate risks (such as extreme weather events and long-term climate impacts). This role supports Deutsche Bank’s commitment to integrating ESG risks into risk management frameworks, reporting and monitoring and ensuring compliance with rapidly evolving regulatory standards.
Based in Bonn, you will join the Climate & Environmental Risk department as part of a 3‑person local team. This globally distributed department comprises 12 professionals organized into 4 distinct teams and is led by a London‑based Head. In this role, you will operate within a dynamic and international environment, collaborating closely with key stakeholders across all divisions of Deutsche Bank.
Your key responsibilities
- Quantitative Risk Modeling
- Develop and apply mathematical and banking models to quantify and monitor climate and environmental risks
- Perform scenario analysis and stress testing for transition and physical climate risks
- Support integration of climate risk metrics into credit risk and portfolio management systems
- Concept Development, Implementation & Reporting
- Design and implement frameworks for managing climate and environmental risks within real estate portfolios
- Evaluate and further develop the use of geospatial data
- Perform ad‑hoc analysis and quarterly reporting
- Regulatory & Market Alignment
- Monitor and interpret regulatory requirements (e.g., ECB, EBA, EU Taxonomy, CSRD) related to Climate & Environmental risks
- Evaluate market trends and best practices for climate risk management in real estate
- Ensure timely implementation of regulatory changes and internal policy updates
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with internal teams (Credit Risk, Portfolio Management, Finance, Chief Sustainability Office, and TDI) and external stakeholders
- Provide expert input for Climate & Environmental risk reporting to senior management
Your skills and experiences
- Completed university degree (quantitative) with professional experience in comparable activities and a solid understanding of risk management
- Strong analytical skills and advanced knowledge in data evaluation (e.g., with SAS, Python or Excel for regression analyses)
- A structured, analytical, and independent approach to work, with a keen interest in strategic issues and a strong implementation orientation
- Excellent communication skills, fluent in both written and spoken German and English
