Communications Engineer – Digital Payload Development for Satellites (m/f/d)

Stellenbeschreibung:

As a Communications Engineer for Digital Payload Development, you will contribute to the design and development of advanced digital payloads for satellite constellations.

You will work on high-performance onboard signal processing, digital communications and beamforming technologies, supporting missions from early design phases through testing and system validation.

Your Responsibilitie

  • Develop digital payloads for innovative satellite constellations
  • Design and implement signal processing and communication systems for space applications
  • Integrate and design beamforming antenna systems and their control architectures (DRA)
  • Develop and optimize onboard processors for high-data-rate digital signal processing
  • Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for high-performance signal processing
  • Perform complex link budget analyses for satellite constellations
  • Support bid and proposal activities with technical contributions
  • Create unit, payload and test specifications
  • Support integration, verification and testing activities of digital payload components
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure system requirements and interfaces are met

Your Profile

  • Degree in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Solid background in communications engineering and satellite communications
  • Experience with antenna technologies, especially digital beamforming
  • Knowledge of high- and extremely high-frequency technologies (HF / SHF)
  • Experience with onboard processors and digital signal processing
  • Experience or strong interest in FPGA design (e.g. VHDL, Verilog, High-Level Synthesis)
  • Proficiency in MATLAB for simulation and signal processing
  • Experience with tools such as STK (Systems Tool Kit) and/or Satsoft for system and antenna analysis
  • Familiarity with communication standards such as DVB-S2, 5G and European Waveform
  • Experience in complex link budget calculations for satellite constellations
  • Strong interest in space-based communication systems and advanced payload technologies
  • Analytical mindset, structured working style and strong team spirit
  • Basic knowledge of German is desirable; English is required
