Freelance Compliance Officer/MLRO (6-Month Contract)

About the Company: A leading international payments provider is seeking an experienced Freelance Compliance Officer/MLRO to join their expert team. This is a unique opportunity to work with a company at the forefront of the payments and financial services industry, supporting regulatory compliance and risk management across European markets.

The Role: We are looking for a compliance professional with a strong background in governance, AML/CTF, and strategic oversight. This freelance position is an initial 6-month engagement with the potential to extend.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure regulatory compliance and manage outsourced compliance and risk activities.
Serve as a key contact for BaFin, Bundesbank, and other regulatory bodies.
Provide expert advice on German and EU regulatory frameworks.
Develop and deliver compliance and AML training to employees across multiple locations.
Maintain integrity risk analysis and other critical risk registers.
Oversee AML/CTF programs while acting as the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).
Implement and maintain policies related to Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption (ABAC), whistleblowing, and data protection.
Supervise customer due diligence processes and second-line KYC monitoring.
Conduct AML transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and reporting.
Update and maintain the compliance calendar and policy repository.

Requirements:

Minimum 4 years of experience in financial compliance.
Bachelor’s degree in law, compliance, or a related field, plus relevant AML certifications.
Proven expertise in EU and German regulatory frameworks, including BaFin regulations.
Fluency in English and German is essential.
Experience within the payments or financial services industry.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with international teams.
