Construction Quality Manager – Data Centres

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management & Governance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Quality Management Plan (QMP) aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish clear quality processes, inspection regimes, and acceptance criteria across all construction disciplines.
  • Ensure that quality requirements are fully integrated into construction planning, sequencing, and execution.
  • Promote a strong quality culture across the project, reinforcing accountability and continuous improvement.

Quality Planning & Risk Management

  • Review design documentation to identify quality risks, constructability issues, and potential compliance gaps.
  • Support early identification of critical quality hold points, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and approval gateways.
  • Review contractor Quality Plans, inspection regimes, and document control procedures for compliance and adequacy.
  • Support definition of First of a Kind (FoK) and benchmarking requirements for critical systems and installations.

Construction Phase Responsibilities

Site Quality Oversight

  • Provide visible site‑based quality leadership throughout the construction phase.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits covering:
  • Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) works
  • Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems
  • Specialist and mission‑critical installations
  • Verify compliance between approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and installed works.
  • Monitor quality performance trends and proactively address emerging issues.

Inspections, Testing & Compliance

  • Review and monitor contractor Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring inspections are completed at the correct stages.
  • Witness key quality inspections, testing, and validation activities where required.
  • Ensure materials, equipment, and workmanship meet approved standards prior to concealment or progression to next stages.
  • Confirm that quality records, test results, and certifications are accurately documented and filed.

Non‑Conformance & Corrective Action

  • Identify, record, and manage non conforming works (NCRs) , ensuring:
  • Root cause analysis is undertaken
  • Corrective and preventative actions are defined
  • Issues are tracked through to closure
  • Challenge repeat or systemic quality issues and support implementation of preventive measures.
  • Coordinate quality issue resolution with contractors, designers, vendors, and commissioning teams.

Interface with Commissioning & Handover

  • Coordinate closely with the Commissioning Manager to ensure construction quality supports commissioning success.
  • Verify system completeness, installation quality, and readiness prior to turnover for commissioning activities.
  • Support integrated testing readiness by confirming closure of construction quality issues.
  • Support development and execution of the quality handover strategy .
  • Ensure all quality documentation is complete, accurate, and approved, including:
  • Test and inspection records
  • Certificates of compliance
  • O&M manuals related to construction works
  • Coordinate snagging activities and monitor progress through to final acceptance.
  • Support turnover to Operations, ensuring assets meet required quality and reliability standards.

Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in construction quality management on large, complex projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in data centre, mission critical, industrial, or highly serviced building projects .
  • Strong understanding of CSA and MEP quality requirements within critical environments.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Formal quality management training or certification (e.g. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor) is advantageous.

Professional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of construction QA/QC processes, inspection methodologies, and documentation control.
  • Proven experience managing NCR processes and driving corrective actions to closure.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and challenge contractors while maintaining a collaborative approach.
  • Proficient in MS Office and digital project management / document control platforms.

Language

  • Fluent German and English , with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
