Senior Originator (f/m/d) – E.ON Energy Markets GmbH

The candidate will be a Position Manager on the Contractual Assets desk with direct PnL responsibility. The role sits between trading and origination, ensuring that contracted assets are hedged effectively, PnL is optimised and risks are actively managed. You will manage the end‑to‑end lifecycle of assets under contract, from evaluation and pricing, through to execution and performance monitoring.

The desk has a mandate to trade positions to optimise and protect value from assets under contract and future assets we will contract, including but not limited to PPAs, Flex Tolls such as Virtual Batteries and Virtual Pump Storage, Virtual Gas Storage, and other asset‑linked bespoke special transactions. Position Managers must generate PnL by identifying and implementing trading strategies across the assets they manage, while contributing through active risk management and optimisation.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to desk PnL by identifying, implementing and executing profitable trading strategies in the Contractual Assets space.
• Work with the Origination team on business development to identify asset types, contract structures and pricing strategies that provide a balanced and optimal portfolio to drive PnL.
• Develop and maintain robust tools for deal evaluation (PPAs, Virtual Storage and other structured products), including back‑testing, scenario analysis and sensitivity studies.
• Collaborate with other traders, analysts and originators to generate new ideas and strategies.
• Maintain a strong view on European energy markets (power, gas, emissions).
• Own position and PnL throughout the asset life cycle, designing hedging strategies for complex deals while balancing risk reduction with value optimisation.
• Pitch strategies to senior trading management for risk capital allocation.
• Shape structuring, risk evaluation and pricing of contractual assets identified by Origination, coordinating with Quants in adjacent teams.
• Work with Risk Management to ensure transparency on risk and PnL performance, and compliance with limits and internal governance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience (3+ years) in energy trading, asset optimisation, or structured energy products with a strong PnL track record.
• Detailed understanding of European energy markets and commodity interaction.
• Strong grasp of structured products, pricing models and risk management.
• Demonstrated ability in position management and portfolio optimisation.
• Technical skills such as Python and database management are a plus.
• Quantitative background with excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Soft skills to guide colleagues and lead within the team.
• Ability to manage time and work under pressure while being a reliable contact.
