Data Center Service Engineer

This role is based at an operational one year old data center, with ambitious plans for the coming year to significantly increase the site’s capacity.

Location : Hamburg

We are looking for someone who:

• Has hands‑on experience in operating and maintaining technical installations in mission‑critical environments (data centers preferred)
• Has solid knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical infrastructure (UPS, generators, cooling, BMS, power distribution)
• Preferred to have knowledge of fibre optic network cabling
• Is detail‑oriented and works accurately according to procedures and safety standards
• Understands the importance of SLA, uptime, and risk mitigation
• Can troubleshoot incidents and act decisively under pressure
• Works well independently but understand the value of a team and works well together
• Communicates clearly with colleagues, vendors, and customers
• Has a proactive, service‑oriented and problem‑solving attitude
• Is comfortable working with digital tools, monitoring systems, and ticketing platforms

What are you going to do?

As a Data Center Service Engineer, you are responsible for the day‑to‑day technical operation of the data center. You ensure that all critical systems are functioning reliably and that incidents, maintenance activities, and customer requests are handled safely and professionally.

In our rapidly growing environment, you will have a broad and varied role with significant responsibility.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

• Operational Responsibility : Monitoring and operating all critical data center infrastructure (electrical, mechanical, and security systems)
• Incident Response : Responding to alarms and incidents, performing root cause analysis, and ensuring proper follow‑up
• Maintenance Coordination : Executing and supervising preventive and corrective maintenance, including vendor coordination
• Change & Risk Management : Working under strict change management and permit‑to‑work procedures
• Remote Hands Services : Supporting customers with technical assistance inside the data center
• Documentation & Reporting : Keeping logs, maintenance records, and incident reports accurate and up to date
• Compliance & Safety : Ensuring all activities comply with internal procedures, safety rules, and standards such as EN 50600, Uptime principles and ISO norms.
• Continuous Improvement : Actively contributing to operational improvements, reliability initiatives, and optimisation of procedures
• On‑call responsibilities : Providing out‑of‑hours support for critical facility alarms and customer remote hands requests, including both remote troubleshooting and on‑site interventions.

Who are you?

To get started as a Data Center Service Engineer at Penta Infra, you should:

• Have a completed technical vocational training (Ausbildung) or Fach Hochschule in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a comparable technical discipline
• Have at least 5 years of experience in a technical operations role, preferably within a datacentre or another mission‑critical environment
• Possess a solid technical understanding of critical infrastructure (electrical and mechanical systems)
• Be comfortable working according to defined procedures, safety rules, and regulated operational environments
• Have a hands‑on mentality with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
• Thrive in a dynamic, international work environment with an informal but professional culture
• Be motivated to continuously learn, develop your skills, and grow professionally
• Be available for full‑time employment (40 hours per week)
• Have a valid EU work permit and reside in Germany. Living max 1 hour driving of Hamburg or be willing to relocate to the Hamburg area
• Be willing to participate in on‑call duties and/or shift work if required
• Be proficient in German and English (both written and spoken)
